Oct 19 / 7.30 PM, BYOB SHOW. Oct 20 / 8:00 PM, BYOB SHOW. Joshua Lozoff has been studying and sharing magic around the world for twenty years. He regularly performs in theaters and at corporate & private functions throughout the United States and abroad. Joshua's motto is "Life is Magic," and he walks his talk by performing everywhere from penthouse suites to the streets of Guatemala City; sharing magic with Fortune 500 CEOs, folks on the street, and everyone in between. Joshua says, "the most Show More...beautiful thing about magic is how it appeals to everyone. I can go from a black-tie gala to a backyard barbeque, and everyone has a few moments in time which transcend our ordinary reality; moments of awe, of astonishment, and just a flat-out fun time." Recently, Joshua had the honor of being one of only two magicians to receive an invitation to perform at......the World's Fair in Japan. He spent two weeks as a featured performer for the USA Pavilion, entertaining Fair visitors from around the globe.
Before turning his attention to magic, Joshua was a professional actor, with a notable recurring role on the TV show Cheers, as Gino Tortelli, and as Logan in the movie Clueless. You can even see Joshua's martial arts prowess on display (he holds a 2nd degree black belt in Aikido) in the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! After 14 years as a professional actor, Joshua left Los Angeles to regain his sanity and devote more time to service work, including volunteer stints throughout Latin America. It was during his travels that a chance encounter with a street magician sparked a new passion, and Joshua began his training. Traveling around the world, Joshua studied with master magicians on several continents. After years of full-time training, he began sharing his craft with others. Now Joshua is regarded as one of the top magicians working today. Last year, Joshua logged over 200 private and public performances; at events ranging from small private parties to corporate banquets and gala balls, and even wedding receptions. Joshua loves sharing his craft with people in every setting, and his love and respect for magic come across in every performance. A few moments spent with Joshua can truly inspire, amaze and entertain. As a client recently wrote: "His passion for what he does really comes through and his humor is infectious. Many, many thanks for a job well done!". ...Show Less

Glencairn Museum mounts an exhibition of 20 paintings and drawings by the late Bryn Athyn artist and arts instructor Nishan Yardumian (1947-1986). "A Show More...Window to the Soul: Nishan Yardumian's Biblical Art" opens Sunday, April 22, during the Museum's annual Sacred Arts Festival and continues through Sunday, November 4, in Glencairn's Upper Hall exhibition space.
Yardumian taught painting in Bryn Athyn for many years, at both the Academy of the New Church Secondary Schools and Bryn Athyn College. A painter as well as a teacher, he was passionate about both professions. According to Yardumian, "Painting aims at the universal with the hopes that each individual can find his identification with it. Teaching aims at the individual with the hope of developing the universal."
Siri Hurst, Nishan Yardumian's widow, who owns many pieces of her late husband's work, says, "For the past five years, as I've taken a day each summer to archive Nishan's remaining art work, I noticed how he was drawn to the subject of 'heavenly appearances.' This theme coincided with my own philosophic reflections on how appearances reveal but also conceal, and this led me to suggest to Glencairn an exhibit that could include this theme.
"Two pieces in this exhibition are favorites of mine. I love 'Bethlehem' because it illustrates a story we can all relate to, of an idea-something of God-that is born within us. 'Annunciation to Shepherds' shows movement: Nishan saw the angel as 'appearing' and changing us, and the drama such change can represent.
"When I modeled for Nishan, I would watch his eyes. The intensity made me feel he was probing an idea beyond the observation. He often said, 'In the end it is not what we paint pictures of, but what we paint pictures from.' I think the key to understanding his art is to realize from what he painted.
"Nishan was deeply spiritual, and saw the discipline of painting and drawing as analogous to the struggle to see the truth. He said, 'Paintings don't re-direct the wind; they realign the heart.'
"He loved to paint stories from the Bible because of what they mean in our lives. Although religious imagery wasn't popular in the art world of his day [1970s and '80s], his work found a receptive home at Glencairn Museum whose mission supports an appreciation for our common spiritual history."
"Yardumian liked the idea that just as an artwork reflects and shapes the values of a home, a museum reflects and shapes the values of a community," says Dr. Martha Gyllenhaal, a close friend of Yardumian and currently Associate Professor of Art and Art History and head of the Art Department at Bryn Athyn College. She was exhibit coordinator for Glencairn's first solo Nishan Yardumian exhibition in 1987, a year after his death.
"So it is fitting that a number of homes have lent their cherished Biblical paintings to Glencairn Museum [for this exhibition]. Yardumian thought that attending an art exhibit is a reciprocal act between the artist and viewer: each brings their best self to the process, which results in a marvelous exchange of insights."
While there is no charge to view "A Window to the Soul," donations are accepted and access is included in tour and event admission.
Besides stated times, visitors may call for an appointment and when attending the Sacred Arts and Medieval Festivals. The exhibition is closed April 29 and May 26 for two concerts and on July 4.. ...Show Less

At the turn of the century, artists began to rebel against traditional modes of expression and exhibition. Although it is frequently associated with Impressionism, Show More...the Delaware Valley region launched some of the most important developments that transformed American art in the 20th century: the roots of the Ashcan School; the leading proponents of Precisionist painting; and some of the first artists to explore non-objective painting.
A remarkable gift of 27 works from Gerry and Marguerite Lenfest in 1999 enabled the Michener Art Museum to highlight the significant contributions to the development of modern art in America as seen through the prism of our region. Artists such as Charles Frederick Ramsey, Louis Stone, Charles Evans, Lloyd Ney, and Charles Rosen were actively engaged in the artistic dialogue that resulted in major shifts in American art at mid-century. For the first time in thirty years, these works will be on view together in one gallery, underscoring the lasting contributions of our region's artists to the evolution of 20th-century American art.. ...Show Less

September 4th- October 28th
Artist reception- Friday, September 7th from 6 PM - 9 PM
Some energies shroud in the shadows while some shine strong Show More...and brightly, such are the forces that push and pull amongst us. From toxic foes to altruistic Samaritans, we are surrounded by other's motives, left to our own volition in the aftermath. It is up to us to wither under, thrive on, possibly even pass along. With personal reflection, what side of the line do we stand on, with the healers and do-gooders or with the cruel and mischievous?
Poisons and Antidotes present the duality of the damages and the remedies. A collection of artist portrayals of malicious intents and selfless healers throughout history, in the myths, as well in our contemporary times. From symbols to epic stories to iconic embodiments of the deeper workings within the human spirit and the physical. The rain can heal and nourish some, while others writhe in pain.

Open to the public; please join us for the opening reception for a first look and to meet the artists for personal insights into their striking work. Wine and light fare will be served compliments of awarding winning JPM Catering.

BUCKS COUNTY'S FIRST ART HOTEL EXHIBITION AND ART SALE

Date: 10/19/18 WEBSITE     Sponsored by: GRATZ GALLERY AND CONSERVATION STUDIO

It is with great excitement and anticipation that beginning on October 5, 2018, we are presenting Bucks County's first Art Hotel venture to our communities Show More...of art enthusiasts far and near. With Bucks County's already rich artistic history, its large selection of galleries, art events and festivals, the culinary offerings, the beauty of its landscape at all seasons, and its deeply rooted tradition of historic Inns, the blending of art and hospitality comes as a natural next step.
In this first Art Hotel exhibition and art sale, we are thrilled to have brought together one of Bucks County's most treasure Inns, one of the area's most established Fine Art galleries and the works by an African American expressionist painter from Philadelphia.
Having a keen sense of appreciation for this area's cultural diversity, curator Stephanie Lisle was inspired to combine the colorful and lively world of art exhibitions with the atmosphere of comfort and tranquility at the Centre Bridge Inn in New Hope, Pennsylvania.
The beautiful, historic, and well established Center Bridge Inn is not only a perfect get away retreat in bucolic Bucks County, it is set in the idyllic landscape of the Delaware River, perfect backdrop for weddings, romantic dinners and overnight stays during all seasons. Their selection of eight sophisticated and tastefully decorated guest rooms already feature themed artwork by Bucks County contemporary and traditional artists.
Gratz Gallery and Conservation Studio has been a leading authority on American Art, and an important member of the Bucks County art community for almost 40 years. Specializing in 19th and 20th century American paintings, with a focus on painters from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Gratz Gallery offers a wide selection of Fine Art from Impressionism to Modern Art. In addition to art investment Gratz Gallery offers custom framing and fine art conservation services. Included in the gallery's extensive selection of art, is a collection of works by African American expressionist painter Bernard Harmon.
Bernard Harmon (1935 - 1989) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1935. Harmon was primarily a portrait painter and a well loved teacher in the Philadelphia area. He was a graduate of the Philadelphia Museum School and Temple's Tyler School of Art. Beloved by many, Harmon taught in the Philadelphia School District, at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, at the University of the Arts, and at Drexel University. Harmon's portraits were commissioned by Philadelphia Jazz organist Jimmy Smith and Mayor Richardson Dilworth. Bernard Harmon was considered a Renaissance man by friends and colleagues for his interests not only in art but music and theater as well. He was familiar and friends with many contemporary African American artists such as Doc Thrash, Selma Burke, Paul Keene Jr., Allen Freelon and Charles Searles. His work has a loose expressionist style that can be related to the work of Alice Kneel.
When visiting the Delaware River community, stop in for dinner and a drink, listen to live music on the weekends, stay for the night, and get enchanted by the colorful art of Bernard Harmon. But don't wait too long; exhibitions will change just as the seasons do.
The Center Bridge Inn is located at 2998 River Rd, New Hope, PA 18938. Their hours of operations are by appointment for events, and restaurant hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday 12 - 9 pm and Sunday 5 - 8pm. For more information please visit their website at www.centrebridgeinn.com

A masterpiece often begins with a humble sketch. Sketching is a crucial process for creative people, and though the term "sketch" instantly brings to Show More...mind fine art, the processes of drafting and planning expands beyond the field of art. You're invited to take a look inside the planning process through the quick sketches people make. Rarely exhibited sketches from local artists including Joseph Cantieni, Emil Gelhaar and, J. Carroll Tobias will accompany completed works on display. See embroidery plans from students at the Ladies' Seminary, City planning documents, building blueprints, and more!
